Professor Jan Tack
Professor and Head of Clinic, Department of Gastroenterology, University Hospitals Leuven, Leuven, Belgium
Professor Jan Tack is currently a Head of Clinic in the Department of Gastroenterology, a Professor in Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Department of Internal Medicine at the University of Leuven, Leuven, Belgium, and a principal researcher in the Center for Gastroenterological Research at the University of Leuven. He is in charge of a research group which comprises 6 postdoctoral researchers, 8 doctoral research fellows and 7 research technicians.
He graduated summa cum laude in 1987 from the University of Leuven and specialized in internal medicine and gastroenterology at the same institution. A research fellow at the Department of Physiology at the Ohio State University, Columbus, Ohio, USA, from 1989 to 1990, he has been a research fellow at the Center for Gastroenterological Research at the University of Leuven since 1990. Professor Tack’s research lies in the field of neurogastroenterology and motility, and includes diverse topics such as the physiology and pharmacology of the enteric nervous system, GI hormones, intestinal inflammation and the pathophysiology of FD, GERD and IBS. He has published more than 320 articles and 40 book chapters on various aspects of scientific and clinical gastroenterology.
Professor Tack won several awards for Basic and Clinical Research in GI Science. Professor Tack is President-Elect of the Inernational Society for Diseases of the Esophagus, editor of Neurogastroenterology and Motility, and section editor for Gastroenterology. He has served as associate editor for Gut and Digestion and serves or has served as a member of the editorial board of Gastroenterology, American Journal of Gastroenterology, Alimentary Pharmacology and Therapeutics, Journal of Gastroenterology, Journal of Internal Medicine and Bailliere’s Best Practice and Research in Clinical Gastroenterology.
